We are delighted to announce the 25 exceptionally talented photographers who have been honored in the “AAP Magazine #40: Portrait” competition.

As Richard Avedon once said, “A portrait is not a likeness. The moment an emotion or fact is transformed into a photograph, it is no longer a fact but an opinion.” This quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of portrait photography, where the goal is to capture more than just a likeness — it’s about conveying a deeper truth and perspective.

Portrait photography spans a vast array of practices and forms. It transcends mere identification or the simple capture of emotions, becoming a powerful medium that can elevate the subject, educate the viewer, and offer profound insights into the human experience. Moving beyond traditional studio settings and family snapshots, portraits become unique artistic expressions that highlight the photographer’s creativity and vision.

Portraits have the power to evoke a multitude of reactions: they can describe, reveal, embellish, question, or disturb. While a single photograph can be interpreted in countless ways, our latest edition of AAP Magazine showcases the distinct perspectives of 25 photographers from 15 countries across 5 continents.

Each winner presents a unique narrative and approach to portrait photography, offering a diverse and enriching exploration of this captivating genre.
